How to choose a glass railing series

The choice comes down to three questions: where the profile is fixed to the structure, what horizontal load it has to take, and what glass thickness goes into it. All the systems on this page have a load-bearing aluminium profile, and their certified values apply with standard toughened laminated glass, so the difference between the series lies in the profile geometry and the load it takes.

By fixing position

• On the slab. The base models TV9900, TV8900, TV6500 and TV4500 sit on the finished floor or the concrete slab. This is the most common option for terraces, balconies and stair landings.
• Side mounting. The variants with the suffix S, TV9900S and TV8900S, are fixed to the side of the structure and leave the full floor width free.
• To the concrete edge or the facade. The L-shaped profiles TV9900L, TV7600L and TV6500L sit flush with a wall or facade with no risk of cracking the concrete, and the profile shape reduces the chance of the glass panel breaking during installation. The same profiles are also used for glass canopies and awnings.
• Extended side mounting. The Y-shaped profiles TV9900Y and TV7600Y are mounted on the concrete edge at floor level. With the TV9900Y the glass is aligned from the inside of the balcony, using only an M5 hex key.

By load

The kN value shows the horizontal load per linear metre that the system takes. A higher value corresponds to more intensively used areas, such as public and commercial buildings.

• 2 kN. TV7600 in its base version, for domestic and residential use.
• 3 kN. TV8900 and TV8900S, TV6500 and TV6500L, TV7600L and TV7600Y. They cover residential, commercial and industrial projects.
• 4 kN. TV9900L and TV9900Y, for the most heavily loaded residential, commercial and public applications.

The TV9900 series is approved to the AbP standard and is installed both indoors and outdoors as a fall-protection barrier.

By glass thickness

If the project calls for thinner glass, the series for it is TV5500. The glass is held by a clamping profile adjusted with a hex key, and the system takes 8, 10 and 12 mm toughened glass as well as 5+5 and 6+6 laminated. Typical uses are ground-floor fencing, pool fencing and privacy screens, and with an added handrail the system also covers domestic railings. The thickness for a specific site is decided during design.

Which profile for which project

• Balcony or terrace in a residential building. TV7600 as a budget solution, TV9900 when the highest rating for safety and durability is needed.
• Staircase and public building. TV9900L and TV9900Y, certified up to 4 kN.
• Industrial site and busy areas. TV6500, designed to work in any weather and under heavy loads.
• Pool and ground-floor fencing. TV5500.
• Limited profile height. TV4500 is only 80 mm high and stays stable despite its compact size.
• Glass canopy or awning. TV9900L and TV6500L.

Installation speed and maintenance

With TV7600 and TV4500 the glass is fixed with wedges in seconds, using a wedging guide. TV8900 has been redesigned so that installation takes 40% less time, with a simpler and more intuitive system design. On the TV9900 series, precise glass alignment is done from inside the profile using Dura Lock Technology, that is, from the safe side of the railing. All three budget series, TV7600, TV6500 and TV4500, are designed for minimal maintenance.
